Dayton Books and Gifts: Trade-In Guidelines
Helping your beloved books find their next adventure.
We totally understand how tough it can be to part with your beloved books, and we're here to help you find them a wonderful new home! Below, you'll find our guidelines to help make the process easier.
How It Works:
Daily Limit: We accept up to 15 books per person, per day for evaluation. For larger collections, please contact us to schedule a "Trade Appointment." The Evaluation: We look for books that are clean, odor-free, and in "giftable" condition. We generally offer 25% of our projected resale price in store credit.
The "No-Go" List: To keep our shelves fresh, we cannot accept:
- Books with water damage, mold, or strong odors.
- Hardcovers missing their dust jackets
- Textbooks, Encyclopedias, or Reader's Digest Condensed volumes.
- Series Romance (Harlequin/Silhouette) or Science/Tech titles older than 5 years.
- Heavily annoted/highlighted books, audiobooks or magazines.
Turnaround Time: We aim to process trades while you shop! If we are busy, you may leave your books for 24 hours; we will notify yoyou of your credit balance via email or text.
Unclaimed Books: Any books we cannot accept ust be picked up within 48 hours of notification. Books left beyond this time will be donated to community partners.
Applying Your Credit: Trade credit is a "half-and-half" system! You may use your credit to cover up to 50% of any used book purchase. The remaining 50% (plus tax) is payable by cash or card. Credit is valid for used books only and does not apply to new books, gift items, beverages, or food products.
